Top 4 Common HVAC Airflow Problems – How to Fix Them?

August 2, 2022 by Social Sphere Media

Like most homeowners, your home’s HVAC system and repair might not be your priority until there’s a problem. When that problem is airflow-related, it can be challenging to determine the root of the issue and how to fix it. This is why you should keep your air ducts clean and efficient.

Why Is Air Duct Maintenance Necessary?

The air ducts are crucial in ensuring that the air around the area is clean and healthy. By circulating fresh air, they help to remove dust, pollen, and other airborne contaminants.

In addition, air ducts help to regulate temperature and humidity levels, keeping your home comfortable year-round. Unfortunately, air ducts can become clogged with dust and debris over time. This can reduce the air quality in your home and make it more challenging to heat and cool your house effectively.

As a result, it’s essential to have your air ducts cleaned regularly. Doing so can help ensure that the air in your home is always fresh and healthy.

Here are four of the most common HVAC airflow problems:

1. Blockaded Vents And Registers

HVAC systems help to circulate air throughout a home or office, but sometimes the airflow can become blocked. This can happen for various reasons, from furniture placement to pet hair accumulation.

Blocked vents and registers can significantly reduce the efficiency of an HVAC system, leading to higher energy bills and decreased comfort levels. In extreme cases, it can lead the system to overheat and break down.

2. Congested Filters

One of the most common signs that a filter is clogged is reduced airflow from the vents. This can lead to more prolonged heating and cooling cycles and higher energy bills.

Additionally, a clogged filter can cause the HVAC system to work harder than necessary, leading to premature wear and tear.

3. Leaky Ducts

Your HVAC system is designed to provide comfortable indoor temperature and humidity levels by circulating and conditioning the air in your home. However, if your ductwork is blocked or leaking, it can seriously affect the performance of your HVAC system.

Blocked ducts can cause the air to become stagnant, making it difficult for your system to maintain a comfortable indoor environment. Leaky ducts, on the other hand, can cause your system to work overtime as it struggles to maintain the proper airflow.

4. Plugged Condenser Unit

One common HVAC airflow problem is an obstructed condenser unit. The condenser unit is responsible for drawing air from the outside and circulating it through the system. If the unit becomes blocked, it can severely reduce the system’s ability to function correctly.

Sometimes, it can even cause the system to overheat and break down. The most common causes of an obstructed condenser unit are leaves, dirt, and debris.

How To Prevent HVAC Airflow Problems?

Various factors cause HVAC airflow problems, but a dirty or clogged air filter is the most common culprit.

When your air filter is clogged, it disables airflow and puts unnecessary strain on your HVAC system. In addition to reducing efficiency, this can cause your system to overheat and break down.

To avoid this issue, you must check your air filter monthly and request an HVAC repair service as needed. Other potential causes of airflow problems include leaks in the ductwork, vents’ blockages, and the blower motor’s problem.

Conclusion

If you’re experiencing any of these problems, having them taken care of as soon as possible is vital. Routine maintenance and HVAC repair will help ensure that your system always runs as efficiently as possible, saving your expenses on energy bills.

My experience with Paul's Heating & Air for the past year has been excellent. They are text book when it comes to customer service. They are professionals through & through. Their technicians are highly knowledgeable & skilled & incredibly thorough. They're fastidious in making sure they do it right the first time and making it right if they're not perfect which is rare for them not to be perfect. They take pride in their work. They want to do a great job and that positive, constructive, productive attitude shows. We recently had to replace an aging AC/Furnace unit (17 years old) and the installation of the new Carrier Performance Series was flawless and efficient. The technicians were focused & diligent making sure to dot every technical "i" and cross every technical "t." Also, even though Carrier can be a bit more expensive than some of the budget brands such as Goodman, Carrier and Paul's Heating & Air stand behind their product and their service. It's all about the installation & maintenance, so, with Paul's Heating & Air you not only get an excellent product in Carrier but you also get consummate professionals who know how to install the equipment properly & maintain it properly so you can get the most out of it for many, many years. If it isn't already obvious, I can't recommend Paul's Heating & Air enough. It's money well-spent — a great value for your hard-earned dollar.
